NO TRIAL BY PEERS.
BILL TO ABOLISH PRIVILEGE. British Official Wireless. (Received 9.30 a.m.) RUGBY, May 14. Viscount Sankey's bill to abolish peers' right of trial by peers passed its third reading in the House of Lords. In the House of Commons, in answer to a question the Solicitor-General, Mr. J. T. O'Connor, stated that the total cost to the public funds of the recent prosecution of a peer before the House of Lords was £686. This case, in which Lord de Clifford was tried and acquitted by his peers on a charge of manslaughter following a motor collision, gave ris& to Lord Sankey's bill, which now will go before the Hou£>e of Commons.
