BORAH'S SETBACK.

Nomination Fights for U.S. Presidency. REPUBLICANS' LEADER. NEW YORK, May 14. The aspirations of Mr. W. E. Borah, in connection with the Republican party's nomination of a candidate for the Presidency, received a new setback as the results of the primary elections in Ohio and West Virginia were compiled yesterday. i In Ohio Mr. Borah appears to have won only five of the 52 Republican delegates, the remainder being pledged to Mr. Robert Taft, son of the former President of that name. This means that Mr. Taft will receive a courtesy vote at the first ballot, after which the delegates will be at liberty to "switch over" to other candidates. Mr. A. M. Landon, Governor of Kansas, is most likely to receive the majority of the delegations' votes. His delegates led Mr. Borah's supporters by a wide margin in West Virginia. In Vermont, where no Borah candidates were in the contest, nine delegates were favourable to Mr. Landon. According to political observers Mr. Landon's selection now is all but assured. On the Democrat side Mr. Roosevelt received huge votes of confidence in West Virginia, North Dakota, Delaware and Ohio against negligible opposition.
