WANGANUI NOTES.

REIPAR'S GOOD EFFORT. FARMER AND WAIPIRO. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, Thursday. The only Wanganui horses engaged at Marton on Saturday are Reipar, Peter Jackson and Indefinite. All three raced at Hawera, but without success, though the racing appears to have done them good. Peter Jackson is still on the big side, but he is muscling up, and by the time the Wanganui meeting comes round the Nigger Minstrel gelding should be not far from his best again. Reipar is hardening up. and he should be handy at the finish of the Hack Cup at Marton. However, on Hawera form Hunting Queen looks to be particularly well treated, and she is likely to be a good favourite. This morning Reipar and Peter Jackson were companions in a spin over seven furlongs on the outside of the course proper. There was not much pace on in the earl}' stages, the first furlong taking 14s, and the quarter 275. From then 011 they did better, Reipar drawing gradually away to be some three lengths in front at the five furlongs, cut out in 1.6, and he weit on to finish several lengths ahead after running the full distance in 1.32. It was a satisfactory effort, as he was wide out and pulled up well. Indefinite was given a round ovo.r the schooling fences, six of which he cleared in good style, jumping straight. He is to run in the Hack Steeplechase at Mar-j ton 011 Satu'-d..y. Lady Iloariri ran a good race at Hawera (he first day. but knocked herself, about in the float afterwards, and this prevented her starting 011 the second day or at Marton. If she makes a good recovery she will be raced at Foxton. Koreroa t also sustained injuries by kicking in the same float, and he was likewise unable to fulfil his engagements. Reports from Fordell credit Farmer and Waipiro with having been responsible for good work recently, and they are expected to run well in their engagements at Marton. Farmer figures in the Winter Stakes, which is run over seven furlongs, a distance which suits him. Waipiro is to run in the Hack Cup, and she should be hard to beat. It is on the cards that the finish will be fought out betweeno Hunting Queen and Waipiro, owned respectively by the brothers Messrs. T. A. and W. McA. Duncan. W. Rayner has had bis two yearling fillies, Icing and Scarf Dance, on the tracks recently. So far as looks go they would be very hard to fault. Scarf Dance (Limond—Veil) especially taking the eye.
