WOODVILLE GOSSIP.

MARTON CANDIDATES. YESTERDAY'S GALLOPS. (Special to "Star.") WOODVILLE, this day. With several horses engaged at Marton, the going favourable and the steeplechase fences in readiness, training operations at Woodville promised to be interesting yesterday. When dawn broke, however, there was a heavy fog, and this had not lifted at 10 a.m., the programme for the morning having to be adjusted to suit the conditions. Among those that did gallop were Brigadore. Otaki and Vivienne, who are engaged at Marton, and Sunder, who has been entered for Carterton. Brigadore was sent along over a mile, With B. Kowliai in the saddle. He was not going much faster than a canter for the first furlong, but he was speeded up passing the six-furlong post and he finished strongly. Otaki (C. McGovern), with a weight advantage, beat Vivienne (J. Diggan) by about three lengths at the end of a mile cut out in 1.55 4-5. Vivienne was the pacemaker until they disappeared in the fog, but when they came into sight again Otaki was bowling along comfortably in front. W. J. Broughton is to ride Otaki at Marton. Vivienne has been accepted for two races and if she starts in the Necklace Mr. J. Mcßeth will have the mount. If reserved for the Farewell Hack I'. Williams will ride her. Flaminarion, looking a picture and ijone the worse for his racing-at Hawera, was given pace work. He is in wonderful condition and it is stated that his next outing is likely to be at Auckland. In Good Fettle. De Trop appears to be none the worse for her races at Ilawera and is in good nick for Marton, where she will bj piloted by K. Marsh. The steeplechase fences have been up at Woodville for about a week, but Otaki is the only horse to have gone over them so far. Otaki jumped very well. Red Manfred has been turned out since he returned from Australia, but he is expected to rejoin the active brigade in the near future. The stable is confident that he will stand another preparation. Golden Ridge, the half-brother to Royal Record, by Laekham, has been sold by Mr. R. A. Williams to Mr. H. A. Noble, of Woodville. Golden Ridge has shown promise and he should prove a profitable purchase. Haut Monde, who has been a bit of a disappointment this season, was to have been gelded yesterday. He is to be turned out at Mr. T. H. Lowry's place, Okawa. Mandamus has been on the easy list for some time, but it is likely that he will be sharpened up for the next Trenthaui fixture.

Blue Tiger lias been out of action since the Danncvhike meeting. He gave himself si knock and the leg filled a bit. r lhe injury, however, is not regarded as serious. I'iii Money broke down some time ago and he was "blistered and turned out. r lhe trouble appears to be disappearing. Invictus, who broke down before the Hawera meeting, is not likely to race again this winter. Some Good Yearlings. Half a dozen yearlings from Fred Davis' stable were out exercising yesterday morning and they were a very fine lot. The Limond-Homage colt. Court Craft, for which ill". \V. H. Gaisford paid a high price at the last Trentham sales, is a big chap and very much bigger than Heritage was as a yearling. Good things might confidently be expected of him. The Posterity—Eulogy filly Relative, owned by Mr. G. M. Currie, is on the small side, but her conformation suggests speed above the Ordinary. There is a full-brother to Admiral Drake (Chief Ruler—Tame Duck), owned by Mr. Frank Armstrong, and he is a likely-looking sort. Two the yearlings are ofrned by Mr. Frank Ormond. They are fillies, one by Gainscourt out of Huirau, and the other by Arausio out of Te Aupaki, the dam of Toxeuma. The other is a Chief Ruler— Yeomanry filly owned by Fred Davis. At Awapuni. The going was slow but in good order for work at Awapuni yesterday morning, when • Marton candidates were sent along against the watch. Hunting Lodge, with "VY. J. Broughton up, was timed to run the last five of six furlongs in 1.7, and she pulled up well. Happy Hunting (W. J. Broughton) was going better than Bodyline (S. Anderson) at the end of five furlongs, run in 1.7 1-5. Forest Glow (L. H. Jones), Manawatu (A. McDonald) and Tail Light (B. Browne) were associated in a workout over a mile, and after a slow beginning they increased the pace a bit and ran the last six furlongs in 1.28 1-5. Prince Reno (L. 11. Jones) and Miss Pango (B. Browne) were companions in a good strong working gallop, both moving well. •
