MINIATURE RIFLES.
HARLAND MEMORIAL SHIELD. I FOR ANNUAL COMPETITION. Interest in inter-club shooting among miniature rifle clubs in the Auckland province has been given a decided fihp by provision of the. Jack Harland Memorial Shield. This lias been presented by the Whangarei Miniature llille Club for an annual competition by means of three postal shoots in June July and Augustteams of eight. Individual clubs may enter more than one team—ten shots to be fired, two on each target, all to count. The shield is in remembrance of an old and valued member, the late Jack Harland, who was a well-known newspaper employee in the Waikato and Wlianga:rei chief machinist on the Northern Advocate" for a number of years. The trophy was designed and manufactured in Whangarei. The f £«ndation of the shield is mottled kauri, about 18m by 16in. The silver scroll at;*ke top has in raised lettering the words The J act Harland Memorial Shield. J-he pentr medallion has the fonowing inseopUon "Presented by fiends and pXrhih" the Whangarei Miniature Rifle Club. Directly underneath is a _ silver inscribed; ""For competition between Auckland miniature" rifle clubs.
