WIDE OPENED EYES.
MAORI CHILDREN ON TOUR. FIRST VISIT TO CITY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Twenty-four Ma-ori children,, pupils of the Tokaanu Native School, spent today in Wellington on their way south to Christchurch. They are on a. tenday educational tour. Until to-day none of them had ever set eyes on city streets or travelled 011 traincar, train or steamer. During the morning they visited Parliament Buildings, where they were met by the Minister of Education, the Hon. P. Eraser, and by the Hon. Kangi Mawhete, M.L.C. The Wellington City Council accorded them a hearty welcome by placing at their disposal an omnibus which conveyed them in the afternoon to Mount Victoria, Newtown Zoo, the Municipal Milk Depot, and the Dominion Museum and School of Arts and Crafts, where the}' were welcomed by Sir Apirana Ngata. Later from 2YA they broadcast songs, and to-night embarked on the inter-island steamer Wahine.
