WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
GLEN EDEN. At the monthly meeting of the Glen Eden Women's Institute a demonstration of hairpin work was given by Mrs. Fox. A flower competition resulted in Mrs. Kirkbride 1, Miss Hill 2; child's dress, Mrs. Bollard 1, Mrs. Werner 2. SWANSON. At the Swanson Women's Institute monthly meeting an address on "First Aid in the Home" was given by Mrs. McDowell, of St. John Ambulance Brigade. The competition, "A soft toy," was won by Mrs. Beaumont with" a Dutch boy, and Mrs. Green with a fish. Hostesses were Mesdames W. Taylor and Close. MANGAWEKA. There was an unusually large attendance at the meeting of Mangaweka Institute. Members decided that a delegate be chosen next month for the Dominion conference. Mrs. Bush (Aramoho) demonstrated the making of satin cushions, tinsel paper pictures and brooches, and modelling of dolls with papier mache. She also showed members how to make plaster easts of dolls' faces. The team for the Rangiwahia drama competition entertained with a dress rehearsal of their play, "Suppressed Desires." There were three competitions, Mrs. Pafrman's being the only entry for the bowl of flowers. Chrysanthemums, Mrs. Pederson 1, Mrs. Pairman 2, Mrs. Salt 3; pikelets, Miss Zohs I, Mrs. Ince 2, Mrs. Williams 3.
