BEAUTY IN SKY.

"RAINBOW" ROUND THE MOON. WITNESSED LAST NIGHT. For those who left the fireside early last night the world outside presented a beautiful sight. Trees and houses and landscape were fantastically bathed in the brightest moonlight and the pitchblack shadows made contrasts that seemed' unreal. There was beauty in the moonlit earth, but an even greater beauty took away the breath of many who gazed up in wonder at the sky. There was the moon, its silver surface shining. Around it, in a' perfect circle, was a matchless rainbow—or rather not a bow, for its curves of colour were complete. Some people saw it as early as half-past seven and others, in the east, about nine. To some it was a wide ring, to others it seemed smaller. From the descriptions given it is likely that the phfnomenon was a corona, caused by reflection arid refraction of the moonlight by particles of ice floating in the air. Such effects are not uncommon, but they may not be often noticed.
