OBITUARY.

MR. AUGUSTUS K. LIPSEY,

The death has occurred of Mr. Augustus K. Lipsey, who ranked as one of the very first settlers In le Aroha. His father and mother were residents some vears before a township was established, lie Y.T. 5 the eldest son of the late Mr. George auJ Mrs. Lipsey, a chieftainess of high rank, who have always been known as To Aroha's leading benefactors, among their liberal gifts being land to each of the churches and the public school. In his youth Mr. Lipsey was prominent in all branches of sport. In the running field he won many handicaps, while in Rugby he was for many years the outstanding player and mainstay of the Te Aroha Club. He was an owner of racehorses, having raced several, including Alba Rose, successfully, while lie was also associated with the late Mr. A. W. Edwards in the racing of Honesty, Manapouri and others. In 1019 he took up a dairy farm at Manawaru, and later purchased a modern farm of 100 acres at Te Aroha West, farming it himself for 15 years. For over 30 years he was an official of the Te Aroint Jockey Club. He leaves a widow (a daughter of Mr. Alfred Bassons, of Te Aroha) and a family of six: Augustus, Seymour, Lois, Freda and Mary Lipsey (Te Aroha), and Mrs. Porritt (Tuakau).
