MOUNT ALBERT SUPERIOR.

Owing to the selectors on both sides taking tho opportunity to give all the available talent a "gallop," the match between Mount Albert and Richmond could not be regarded as a real test of strength, but, on the day. It revealed the former as a superior combination to that of last season s championship winners. The principal rivals of last season, it was made abundantly clear, will again be serious contenders for premier honours. In' the first spell, when Mount Albert fielded a combination which is likely to represent the club on the open ing day, they piled up a good lead, but when the reshuffle took place, Richmond gradually overhauled them and the game ended with them nursing an advantage ot 22 points to 15 only. There were fewer changes among the Richmond thirteen and the consequence was that they improved their combination as the game progressed, whereas that of their opponents deteriorated if anything. The brothers Tittleton, from "VVaikato, turned out for last year s champions, and both gave good accounts of themselves. W. Tittleton showed pace and enterprise in the five-eighth berth, while George Tittleton shaped promisingly at full-back. Powell did good service behind the pack, and Mincham and Bickerton made the most of the opportunities than came their way in the three-quarter line. Tetley and C. Satherley were the pick-of the forwards, who packed down much the same as last season. The Mount Albert chain has been strengthened by the inclusion of L. Seliultz, has 3Ust returned from England to captain the side. He proved himself to be a thrustful fiveeighth with fine appreciation of positional play, and he is likely t& be a prolific trygetter this season. Halsey struck form, and his speedy dashes along the wing were a feature of the game. Morrissey, the fullback, has lost none of his form during the off-season, and not only defended well, but frequently made openings for his sup : ports. The Mount Albert forwards were a hard working, bustling lot who were always going great guns. Players who Showed up for consistently good work were Herring, Peterson, Constable and Gunning.
