LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

AUCKLAND CONTROL BOARD. OPENING DAY MATCHES. JUNIOR INSURANCE SCHEME ADOPTED. At the meeting of the Auckland Rugby League Control .board last evening, Mr. G". Grey Campbell presiding, the senior fixtures for opening club day on Saturday were arranged. A. portion of the proceeds will be a benefit to the international player J. Laird. Newton Rangers will meet Marist Old Boys in the early match on No. 1 ground, and Richmond Rovers and Mount Albert will provide the attraction at 3 p.m. Ponsonby and City Rovers will meet on No. 2 ground at 3 p.m. The Dcvonport team will meet the Pukemiro (South Auckland) Club thirteen at North Shore, where there will also bo junior matches.

"There is no sporting honour that I could know of greater merit to me," wrote Mr. J. A. Lee, M.P., acknowledging his appointment as president of the Auckland Rugby League. Mr. R. H. Wood was thanked for the oiler of donation of an honours board, and it was decided to write to all clubs asking them to supply the names of members or ollicials who have 25 years' record of active connection with the game in playing and oliicial capacity. The chairman was appointed the Auckland direct delegate at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Council. The Inangahua League of West Coast (Reefton) wrote inquiring as to the possibility of obtaining the services of a reputable player-coach. It was decided to refer the matter to the senior clubs. The recommendation of the junior management was approved that the Tracy Inglis trophy be allocated as an award for junior clubs only for competition on similar lines to the Davis Points Shield. The West Coast Rugby League (Greymouth), with a view to instituting the senior reserve grade policy, wrote for rules governing this phase of grade development. The scheme for compulsory junior insurance submitted by the junior management was adopted, and it was decided to co-opt the services of a sub-committee of the junior management to report on claims.
