WELLINGTON 1 V. CANTERBURY.
GREAT DUEL IN MILE RACE. * (By Telegraph.—Press Association.)WELLINGTON, Saturday. Athletic representatives of Wellington and Canterbury met in combat at the Basin Reserve in fine weather to-day. In tlio mile Boot and A. R. Wilson drew right away. Wilson was on Boot's heels and entering the final lap Boot increased the pace 200 yards from home, momentarily drawing away. Wilsop, however, responded gamely and gradually reduced Boot's lead to win in an exciting finish in the last stride. The time must rank as a high performance, in view of the strong wind.
