CITY ROVERS CLUB,

ANNUAL MEETING BUSINESS

The annual meeting of the City Rovers Club held at the Rugby League boardroom last evening attracted a record attendance, and Mr. George Hunt presided.. The twenty-sixth annual report stated that the senior team, in spite of displaying brilliant form at times, failed ultimately through laxity of training, it was considered. The reserve team went through the first round undefeated, but did not maintain their form. The third and fourth grades performed consistently throughout the season. With a shade more luck top honours would have been obtained, and both teams were congratulated. The club extended its congratulations to L. Brown, S. Watene, J. Herring and S. Clarke and particularly complimented Wm. Brown who not only gained international honours, but displayed brilliant form against Australia, ana also captained a side against the visitors. During the season a change had been made in the club control by the introduction of grade representation. Reference was made to the "successful trip of the senior team to Whangarei. Owing to heavy expenditure on equipment the club had been able to come- out with a slight credit balance only for the season. Officers were elected as follows : —Patron, Mr. Charles Raines: president, Mr. George Hunt; club captain, Mr. Ben Davidson ; secretary and treasurer, Mr. E. K. Asher; assistant secretary, Mr. X Counihan; auditor, Mr. E. H. Phelan; executive committee, Messrs. J. Sullivan, C. Raynes, J. Ragg and Lou Brown (seniors), J. Purdy (reserve grade), G. Miller (thirds), W. Martin (fourths), C. Nicholson (fifths), G. A. Dean (sixths), and S. Dickie (schoolboys) ; vice-presidents were re-elected with power to add. . It was decided to support the remit that every senior club shall field three junior teams, and to approve the proposal for compulsory insurance by juniors. The Newton rangers' sugfct-rtion that no representative selector should be officially connected with a club, was negatived. The re-organised Manukau Rugby League Club which is holding a carnival on its new grounds at Albert Street, Onehunga, on the 19th.. 20th and 21st, to raise funds for training* sheds and other improvements, wrote stating it invited the co-operation competition. It was decided to participate as requested. Tuesday and Thursday evenings were selected as training nights and the first general club practice was fixed for Saturday week New members nominated included T. C. Allen (ex-Auckland Rugby Union rep.), R. H. Dawson, S. Tipene (Panmure), and Harry Wayne -was welcomed back from Taranaki.
