(GRAMMAR SCHOOLS' OLD BOYS HIGH STANDARD IN 1935. THREE LIFE MEMBERS. Mr. C. M. Littlejohn, headmaster of Auckland Grammar School, presided nt Wednesday's largely attended annual meeting of the Grammar Schools' Rugby Football Club, when congratulations were extended to M. M. N. Corner on his selection as a member j of the 1935 All Blacks to tour Groat Britain, and to Mr. V K. Mereditli on his | selection as manager of tlie All Blacks. The club's appreciation of the appointment had been shown by presenting Mr. Meredith with a club blazer. An opportunity had also been taken during the year of presenting the three life members, Messrs. A. St. C. Belcher, A. J. Billington and Ray Farrell, with life membership medallions. Belcher, T. Lockington, E. Truman, R. Meale; coach to # senior team and senior selection committee, left to management committee to appoint; junior selection committee, Messrs. A. L. Simmonds, E. Wilson. i It was decided to hold the first practice on the Grammar School grounds to-morrow week. 1 lie report stated that seven teams were entered in the Auckland Union's competitions, and although the club was not successful in winning any grade championship a high standard was displayed by all teams, it was pleasing- to record the Increasing number of old boys of the Mount Albert and lakapuna Grammar Schools who were joining the club, and that the reorganisation of the-club effected in 1932 was working satisfactorlly. Teams in all grades were representative of the three schools. winning of the jubilee trophy in r? y tlle sem °r team gave to the club a gold cup. Possession of such a cup was unique in that the Rugby Union had decided to discontinue the presentation of any further cups with the winning of the jubilee trophy. After giving the matter considerable thought it was considered advisable that the cup should be presented for junior competition to the grammar schoo.s of Auckland. The following players gained inclusion In Auckland representatives :—A team: M Corner, A. Knight (captain), T. Lockington, A. Brown and A. J. Fletcher. B team: m! E. Kelly, A. J. Mcßeath, E. Gillett, J. C. Jcssup, E. Morgan, J. C. Brown and A lung. ■I toe Monteith Shield for the team with fifteen record was won b y the senior report records with regret the death of G. M. Owen, who was killed in a flying accident at Christchurch. Mr. Owen was a member of the junior team for a number of years. A strong social committee was formed. a ?. ? the club's intention to be active in this direction during the coming winter.

CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS,

T1 The jubilee of the Canterbury College r ootbcul Club is to be celebrated this year. The club existed in some form or other about the year 1880, but it was not until the first fixture against Otago University, played on the Christ's College ground on August 10, 1886, that the club could properly be said to be definitely formed.

There are a number of those who took part .in this game still in New Zealand and it is hoped that they will all attend the celebrations. Of the back division of the 1886 team, Marshall and Craddoek have passed away, Webb is a Christ College bursar and Harden the New Zealand Government agent in, Melbourne. Pope and Beare are in New Zealand somewhere.

The team was captained by H. F. von Haast, the well-known Wellington barrister, and in his pack were two other Wellington lawyers, E. P. Bunny and W. F. Ward. Louis Cohen, another forward, passed away in Wanganui a year or bo ago; F. J. Alley, father of the All Black, crossed the last line only a few weeks ago. The others, David Jack, W. D. Bean, J. P. Grossman and F. Talbot, are all in the land of the living. Old members of the Canterbury College Club are requested to communicate with Mr. T. Hyde, P.O. Box 359. Christchurch, who is secretary of the jubilee committee, and will supply all information.

TRAINING COLLEGE.

Officers elected at the annual meeting of the Training College Rugby Football Club on Wednesday night:—Patron, Mr. Harry Frost; president, Mr. D. M. Rae: victv presidents, Messrs. C. L. Gillies, K. C. Reld, F. Dunlop, F. Sutherland. G. Hamilton (president of the Auckland Headmasters; Association) ; committee, Messrs. M. Sutton, L. Dobbin, R. Shaw, W. Hare, C- Sage, Ciarkson; delegates to Auckland Rugby Union, Mesrs. M. Sutton, L. Dobbin. R. Shaw; delegate to junior management board, Mr. C. L. Gillies. The secretary's report disclosed a satisfactory season's activities in 1935. The increased numbers in college would permit, this year, of the entry of at least four teams in the Auckland Rugby Union's competitions, while the senior team had received a considerable reinforcement in strength from among the Incoming students, and the membership would reach 100. Messrs. Harry Frost (president), and Arthur Baker (chairman of the Auckland Rugby Union) addressed the meeting, wishing the club a successful season in all grades for 1936.
