POPULARITY IN FIJI. Prior to leaving Fiji the Maoriland cricket team was dined at the Grand Pacific Hotel, Suva, by the Suva Cricket Club, when a silver cup was presented to Bruce Massey (the team's captain), for his allround performances, and a bat to W. Dunning as most prolific scorer of the tour. Cash prizes were presented, to Fijian players for performances in batting, bowling and on the field. The team's manager, Mr. E. Sutherland, was given a walking stick of Fiji ebony with a handle of whale's tooth ivory, to be conveyed by him to Mr. E. C. Beale, of Auckland, "asking him to convey to Mr. Beale the best wishes of all cricketers in Fiji and their appreciation of the trouble, and effort he had put in in organising the team to go on tour." In a letter received by Mr. Beale from Mr. Gordon Sutherland, secretary of the Suva club,' the statement is made that "your team has been so popular that nobody has allowed them to rest at all. lam very | glad to be able to assure you that every person who came into contact with them was sincerely pleased to have met such jolly good chaps, and I know some -firm friendships have been established."
