TRAIN DERAILED.
COW THROWN ON POINTS. SHOCK FOR PASSENGERS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL, this day. Three carriages, a van and an engine tender of an excursion train were derailed near Clinton last evening, when a cow was struck by the engine and thrown against a points lever. Half of the train was diverted j another line. . The cars were badly damaged, but the passengers all escaped injury, although some suffered severely from shock. A breakdown train was dispatched from Invercargill, and arrangements were made to take the passengers to their destination by car.
