CANTERBURY PRODUCE.

MARKETS VERY QUIET. HEAVY CROPS EXPECTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHUROH, Friday. The Canterbury produce markets continue very quiet, though more of the new season's crops are being offered as time goes on. The outlook for growers of most lines this season is not encouraging, because in general heavy crops are expected to come on to a market which is well supplied already with the carryover from last season. There has been no change in the oats market. Algerians are offering freely and most of the samples are good. There are very few white oats about yet. Algerians are worth about 1/6, but there are not many buyers even at that price. A Gartons

7 are quoted at about 1/11 on trucks and B's at about 1/8. _ A heavy ryegrass crop is expected this 7 season and naturally the market for this line is depressed. The present price of 1/0 is not likely to appeal to sellers and doubtless a good deal of seed will g 0 back on to the farms. There has .been a slackening in interest in potatoes, the North Island showing a tendency to wait developments. A fairly r heavy crop is expected and prospects have been improved by rains this week. It is too early yet to say what the yields may r be, but unless the weather is definitely bad from now on the returns should be ® heavy. A nominal quotation to-day was ' 87/6, 2/6 lower than it was earlier in s the week. s Continued lack of interest in the onion e market lias allowed prices for the autumnr sown crop to decline to about £4 on " trucks. Very little business is being done ' even at this figure, Southern merchants l finding that they have still heavy supplies , of Canadian. The spring crop has, of - course, not yet appeared, but a nominal • quotation is £4 f.0.b., equal to about £2 10/ on trucks.
