TO FISH AND WRITE.

MR. F. GREEN'S N.Z. TOUR. AMERICAN EX-NAVAL MAN. A well-known American short story writer, Mr. Fitzhugli Green, arrived ill Auckland this morning by the Monterey oil a tour which will be a combination of fishing, writing and "going places." He is accompanied by his wife, and the two of them will spend an indefinite time here. Where tliey will go he has not yet made up his mind, but they will be wherever can be got good trout fishing. On his way Mr. Green will b© writing, and it is probable that he will choose New Zealand subjects. Once, Mr. Green related this morning, he used to do serious articles and touch on political questions, but he got into so much trouble that he gave it up. Now he writes only fiction. He was for 20 years in the United States Navy, and when he retired in 1927 he held the rank of commander. Most of that time he spent in European waters, and he states that it was not a very eventful period, though he was with the U.S.S. Utah during the Great War. "All I can tell you is that I saw the start of an Irish war in Cork on Armistice Day, 1915," he said. "I saw them come running, and I was mighty glad to get out of the place."
