MILK SAMPLING.

BETTER REPORT PRESENTED. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH. "This shows considerable improvement," commented the chairman of the Auckland Milk Council, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, this morning, when the report from the Department of Health was presented. The report was received. During the month 103 official samples of milk were taken on the rounds and from shops, the report stated, the average fat content being 4.34 per cent. Of this number six did not comply with the reductase test. As a result, five warnings were issued against the vendors and a prosecution was pending in the sixth instance. In addition, 14 unofficial samples were taken of the morning's milk on arrival at the various depots, the average fat content being 4.02 per cent. All samples were up to standard. On the North Shore 32 official samples were taken, the average fat content being 4.50 per cent. Two of those samples, which were otherwise satisfactory, were purchased from one vendor and were found to contain added water. Legal proceedings had been instituted in this instance.
