RACING AT ELLERSLIE.

THE TAKAPUNA. MEETING. PROGRAMME FOR TO-MORROW REVIEW OF THE FIELDS. The summer meeting of the Takapuna Jockey Club -will opeii at Ellevslie tomorrow and conclude next Wednesday. Good fields are engaged, and if the weather is favourable some excellent racing should eventuate. The win and place betting system will be in operation. The Opening Event. The meeting will open with the Trial Stakes, in which a field of nineteen is engaged. Diacquedoon ran second in a similar event at Thames last week and is sure to get support. Orefield and Glenacre have also been in the money this season and the latter is a likely improver. Xicodemus ran third at Dargaville and High Quality also has shown speed in his races and should run prominently. Solas has plenty of pace and Valise shaped well in a gallop at Ellerslie recently. Torch, Bayora, Free Advice and Gemland read best of the others. Most money may come for HIGH QUALITY GLENACRE VALISEOrewa High-weight. There are only eight acceptors in the Orewa High-weight and Dark Marble and L'Allegro should have excellent prospects, .as they have previously won over the distance. King Tut is also a possibility and Lap Up is also likely to be in demand. Impellant stays on well and should be in the money. Sweet Lap appeals t.mong the others. The favourites may be DARK MARBLE L'ALLEGRO KING TUT. Ferry Handicap. Some smart hack sprinters figure in the Ferry Handicap and the issue is very open. Whirling was twice in the money at the Auckland meeting and Bellkyrian was a winner at the Bay of Islands fixture. Dancing Lady has previously won at Ellerslie and should go well again. Fleetwind has been galloping in good style recently and appeals more than Mungacre. Lion Heart and Professional are both smart gallopers and the latter should be in the money. Gloucester won over six furlongs at the Takapuna meeting and will be in strong demand. Gay Defence- has been working well recently and will have to be considered. Triune,. Needful and King Brierly should also show up in the running. The form horses are GLOUCESTER PROFESSIONAL BELLKYRIAN. The Cup. The Takapuna Cup candidates are a very even lot and include several recent winners. Monanui ran second in the A.R.C. Handicap at Ellerslie during the holidays and Kelly was third in the Grandstand Handicap at the same meeting. Both should go well. Gay Marigold is on the improve and has won over the distance, while Scotland scored in the Te Awamutu Cup. Gay Rose would only need to repeat her Summer Cup form to be dangerous, while Mazir's dual victory at Bilerslie will ensure him support. Lagoon won well at Thames, but will be meeting stronger opposition to-morrow. Royal Appellant has won over a mile and a quarter and is a fit horse. Wait and See is returning to form and must be considered. In a good betting race most support may come for MAZIR KELLY ' ~ ROYAL APPELLANT, The Two-year-olds. Thirteen two-year-olds are carded for the Calliope .Handicap and recent form pointg to Surella, Marjory Daw and Inver being in most demand. Gay Streak has also been in the money on several occasions and is sure to get support. Rulette ran second to Gay Chief in the Rakino Handicap at the last Takapuna meeting and is a likely improver. Abbess of Whitby won at Paeroa in the spring, but has failed several times since then. Locknit, Haputale and Lorita look the pick of the others. The chief selections may be INVER. MARJORY DAW SURELLA Wynyard Plate. Some of the best hacks in commission are engaged in the Wynyard Plate and a great race should be witnessed* Keith Lu haa won several times this season, and this also applies to Tin Lap, who ran second to Lucidus last week at Thames. Valmint won a double at the recent Auckland meeting and has bright prospects. Velocipede has no recent racing, but Gloucester, if reserved for this event, should show up. Prince Yen's Ellerslie form was good and she will be one of the favourites. Light Comedy was second to Valmint in the Ellerslie Handicap on New Year's Day and has been working well at Te Rapa. Loombination and Ringshot will also have friends. Recent form points to PRINCE VEN VALMINT TIN . LAP. The Zealandia. Boughal heads the list, in the Zealandia Handicap, and if he repeats his Bowen Handicap form he will be troublesome. ►Rereatu ran second in the Railway Handicap at Ellerslie and was runner-up to Royal Dance in the Newmarket Handicap. He is sure ,to run a great race. Galilee also won the Electric Handicap at the Auckland meeting and is & speedy nily. Puss Moth, at his best, would be dangerous, but Star Artist will have to improve Dn her past form to win; Crooning s second to Galilee in the Electric Handicap and her third in the Newmarket Handicap will warrant her getting plenty of support, as she has done well since then. Princess Star is a likely lightweight. The public may prefer REREATU CROONING GALILEE. The Rangitoto. f The day's racing will conclude with the Rangitoto Handicap. Tuaheahe's first and second at the Taranaki meeting will entitle him to support, while Dancing Lady, if reserved, should be in the money. Tidaha won at the Auckland meeting and may show up again. Orac, Bonnie Song and Polly Douglas also appeal and Vera Acre's prospects cannot be overlooked. Persian ijady and Kurapae read best of the others. •JtJetting -is sure to be brisk and the favourites may be DANCING LADY VERA ACRE TIDALTA. At Ellerslie this morning trainers had the use of No.. 3 grass track, which provided excellent going. . Several visiting horses were sprinted, and some fast times i were recorded, while a few of the local horses did serviceable tasks. Mazir and Mungatoon were companions over seven furlongs, and after running the first half-mile in 50 3-5s they covered the full distance in 1.31. Both horses worked attractively, and were on terms at the end. Monanui was given a workout over six furlongs, and ran the distance in 1.20. She ran the first three in 40 1-os, and was going well within herself at the finish. King Brierly and Mungacre, after running the first two ' furlongs in 24 4-ss, reeled off five furlongs in 1.5 3-5. Both carried plenty of weight, and it was a pleasing effort. Lagoon, who is looking exceptionally well, was timed to run the last six furlongs of her work in 1.18 3-5. S. Tremain has been engaged to ride her in the Cup. After commencing slowly from the sixfurlong post, and taking 41s to run the first three furlongs, Scotland was going comfortably to register 1.21 for the full distance. The Acre gelding is in first-rate order. - Gay Marigold cantered round to the halfmile post, and came home in 55 l-se. She increased her speed over the last three furlongs to record 39 4-ss. This mare has been working better 'of late, and is not without prospects in the Takapuna Cup to-morrow. Kelly, carrying his usual light pilot, G. Gilchrist, sprinted three furlongs in 37 2-ss. He infused plenty of dash into his 1 work. L. Dulieu will probably ride him 1 in the Cup. Others to do useful tasks were Prince Ven, Bonnie Song, Gay Rose, Keith Lu and Tidalia.
