WOODVILLE TRACK.

HORSES FOR ELLERSLIE. F. DAVIS* TEAM. SENIOR TO CONTEST CUP. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WOODVILLE, this day. Five horses from Fred Davis' stable leave Woodville for Auckland to-day. They are in the pink of condition and among them they should get some stake money before they return. Senior, Kotou and Karl were galloped yesterday morning, but Heritage and Plato were restricted to useful pace work on the plough, which ■>vas in great orsler. The conditions were perfect for track work at Woodville yesterday, the morning being fine and not too warm, and the tracks were just right after rain on Saturday. Heritage, whose biggest tasi at Auckland is the Derby, was given a couple of miles on the plough at threequarter pace, coming home the last half mile in 58s. The colt was very keen to go faster. Heritage was galloped a mile on Saturday on the course proper and it is said to have been a very satisfactory trial. Mr. Gaisford's colt has not been working the reverse' way yet, but he will have a week at Ellerslie before the meeting opens. Plato was another restricted to pace work on the plough. He appears to be as fit as hands can make him and lie ehouid not disgrace himself at EllersUe. Plato is in the Railway Handicap, but the distance may be a bit short for him as he is not a quick beginner. Karl, winner of the Juvenile Stakes the first day of the Feilding meeting, with the stable apprentice Cavaney in the saddle, was sprinted five furlongs on the No. 1 grass and he completed the distance in the smart time of 1.0 4-5. It was a very nice gallop and Mr. Frank Ormond s colt will be in good trim for his Auckland engagement^. Kotou (Cavaney) sprinted six furlongs and he was going along very solidly at the end after taking 1.3 for the last five. Kotou is in the Queen's Plate on the opening day of the Auckland meeting and in the mile hack races on the other days. He has been working well and looks well. Senior, who will carry Mr. T. H. Lowry's colours in the Auckland Cup, was given a solid workout over a mile and a half on the course proper. The trestles were about 18ft out from the rails, making the course close on 60 yards over the mile, so that the time he took to run the mile and a half was a matter for calculation. Senior ran the first four furlongs in s'2s and, continuing smoothly, lie took 1.21 for the last six, being calculated to run the full distance in a shade better _ than 2.41. Senior galloped boldly throughout and he pulled up well. It was a good workout and the first over that distance at Woodville for some considerable time. He is in the Auckland Cup on the minimum and no rider has been engaged for him as yet. Senior has not shown his true form since returning from Australia, but he is such an easy-going horse that it is extremely difficult to get surplus flesh off him. He ran quite a good race at Woodville, however, and he may not be long now. Rumble (Waddell) and Mandamus (Cavaney) were sprinted three furlongs oa the No. 1 grass in 37s after a slow beginning. Mandamus is the Limond —Drastic colt owned by Mr. W. H. Gaisf*rd, and although he has been in only three weeks he is coming to hand quickly. Two of H. E. Russell's two-year-olds, Mala and Bengal Lancer, were sprinted half a mile on the No. 1 grass after the breakfast interval. Mala, who ran second to Wagner on the concluding day at W6odville, being about three lengths clear to complete the distance in 49 4-ss. Roy Reed will be at Ellerslie for the four daj's of the Auckland meeting, his first day engagements being Corroboree, Golden Blonde, Kind Heart and King Rey He will be at Awapuni for the second and third days of the Manawatu meeting and he will ride at Stratford on the second day of that fixture. G. Tattersall will ride at the Manawatu meeting, his first day engagements being Myriam, Pawky, Laggard, Zionist and Land Tax. It is likely that he will be at Tauherenikau for New Year.

KAHAPA SOLD.

Tlio four-year-old brother to Te Kara, Kahapa, who is engaged in the Auckland Cup, has been sold to an overseas sportsman, and is to leave for Sydney, en route to his new home, by the first available steamer. Kahapa is at present quartered with R. S- Bagby's team at Ellerslie.
