PRESENTATION OF PRIZES.

The annual concert and presentation of prizes of the Otahuhu Public School proved so popular tliat it was necessary to engage the Public Hall for Monday and Tuesday nights. None of the performers was over the age of ten, and the programme submitted was an exceptionally fine one.

The opening chorus was rendered by the pupils of Standard 11, the soloists being Edith Blackburn, Jessie Best, Daphne Sfiirrah; dance, sailor's hornpipe; Peggy McAnulty; playette, "The Crocliety Customer," Frank Richards and Standard I. boys; solo, "The Merry Breeze," Ohvyn Gilpin; recitation, "Little Brown Owl," Beverly Clews; fancy march, Standard 111. girls; recitation, "If You Meet a Fairy, Standard I. girls; dance, "Rufty, Tuft}'," Standard 111. girls,;, recitation, "Going on an Errand," Eileen Kennedy; plavettc, "The Spirit of the Garden," Gardener, Tui Ellice, Ladv of Garden, Joyce Verral, Spirit of the * Garden, Myrta Stanton, storm fairies, garden fairies and flowers, pupiis of Standard I.

The second portion of the programme consisted of an operetta, "The Rose of Joy," in which the following children took part: Queen Cynthia, Dawn Wiles; Magician (Abracadabra Sparks), Jack Peterson; Jester (Merry Heart), Roy Pulman; Queen's page (Sandow), Colleen Hotham; Sunbean leader (Brighteyes), Peggy Fielding; leader of knights, Donald Dvason; the dragon (Clawper Snorter), Ronald Glover.

In the absence of his Worship the Mayor, Mr. C. R. Petrie, M.P., the deputy-chairman of the school committee, Mr. A. McLaren, presented the "Trenwitli Prizes," which are presented each year by Mr. Alfred Trenwitli. The successful girls and boys were: Boys: Standard 1., Haslam Smith and Ross Rawnsley (equal) 1, Kenneth Deas 2. Girls: Standard 1., Beverly Clews 1, Myrta Stanton 2. Boys: Standard 11., Gordon Boswell 1, Jack Patrick 2. Girls: Standard 11., Maureen Ricards 1, Ethel Denham 2.' Standard IV., Elva Trenwitli 1, Violet Hinton 2.

The prizes presented by the Otahuhu Borough Council" for the Arbor Day essay competition were awarded as follows: Gwen Dickie, Olive Beaumont, Colleen Markwick, Cameron Campbell, Jack Patrick, Pat Stacey, Audrey Statliam and Ewen Smith. Thrift prizes were won by Beverly Brown and Kenneth Deas. Improvement prize, Alan Hodgson. Neatness, Kenneth Russell. ... 3 At the conclusion of the entertainment, Mrs. Trenwith, Miss Hampton and Miss Judd were presented with bouquets. A pleasing feature of the evening was the efficient manner in which the headmaster of the school, Mr. A. Murdoch, acted as accompanist during the entire performance. Mr. W. N. Ingram acted as conductor, the orchestra comprising Mr. Dinnison (violin), Mr. John Trenwith (flute), and Mr. Murdoch (piano).
