SURPRISE FOR CANDIDATE,

NOT ON LABOUR PARTY LIST. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAWERA, this day. After having been regarded as the Labour candidate for Egmont, Mr. James Ross, of Auckland, received a_ surprise yesterday when tlie statement issued by the Labour party national executive said there was 110 official Labour candidate for Egmont. Mr. Ross said there had apparently been a misunderstanding between the Labour people of Egmont and the national executive. He had no doubt that the position would be cleared up after tlie election. He had been associated with the party for over 20 years and had been on the list of approved candidates for yeurs. He was pledged to support the Labour platform and was opposing Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, who definitely preferred the present Government.
