Sir James Gunson, chairman of the Railway, Board, left with Lady Gunson for Wellington yesterday. Mr. A. P. Paitry, town clerk at Northcote, leaves by the Limited to-night for Wellington on council business. Brigadier-General C. P. Higginson, who lias been touring New Zealand, left Wellington for Sydney yesterday. The Rev. Trevor Gilfillan is a passenger by the«Tainui, which is due at Wellington to-morrow from England. Dr. R. J. Tillyard, who is to deliver this year's Cawthron Lecture, arrived in Wellington from Sydney oil Monday. Mr. W. James, formerly sub-editor of the "Hawera Star," has been appointed cable sub-editor of the "Poverty Bay Hearld," Gisbornc. Professor W. Riddet, of Massey College, a director of the Dairy Research Institute, arrived yesterday and is at the Station Hotel. Mr. L. V. Bryant, a son of Mr. J. T. Bryant, of Matangi, who left- last March to'join the 1033 Everest reconnaissance expedition, will arrive in Auckland by the Lurline on Saturday. Major A. J. Edney, of the Royal Engineers, who is attached to New Zealand general headquarters, arrived with Mrs. Edney yesterday afternoon. They are at the Station Hotel. Dr. E. P. Neale, secretary of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, attended the annual meeting of the Chamber of Commerce at Dargaville. He returned to Auckland yesterday. Mr. W. O. Williams, Hawera, has been elected president of the Automobile Association (South Taranaki). Mr. J. H. Edmundson has been re-elected president of the Hawke's Bay Association. The Rev. D. S. Millar, assistant chaplain of King's College, Middlemore, has been appointed rector of Moora, in the diocese of Perth, West Australia. He will leave New Zealand to take up his new duties at the end of December. Mr. C. Cam, of the Sydney trawling firm of that name, arrived in Wellington on Monday with Mrs. Cam. He is investigating the prospects of opening a Wellington depot, and expects to stay about six months in the 'Dominion. Colonel G. Davis, chief secretary of the Salvation Army in the United States, who has been on an evangelistic tour of New Zealand, is returning to iAuckland this afternoon. He leaves for America by the Lurline on Saturday. Mr. D. Holderness, engineer, and Mr. W. Brook Smith, assistant secretary, were appointed acting superintendent and acting secretary respectively by the Auckland Harbour Board at its meeting, yesterday, the appointments to date from January 1, 1936. They are to divide the duties of Mr. H. E. Burnett, superintendent and secretary, who has been granted twelve months' leave of absence prior to his retirement on superannuation on December 31, 1930.
