TEMPERANCE WORK.

The annual meeting of tlio Auckland Women's Christian Temperance Union was held on Tuesday afternoon in the clubroom, Y.W.C.A. Mrs. John Cook presided. Mrs. Stinipson gave an address at the devotional session on "Faith." A letter of congratulation was sent to Mrs. Gouk, one of the pioneer members, who recently celebrated her ninetieth birthday. The president reported that she had farewelled Mrs. Moffat Clow, "who left by the Aorangi, and had presented her with a bouquet of flowers from the union. The following departments of work were reported upon: Cradle roll white ribbon Bible in schools. In connection with the backblocks work Mrs. Hall reported that the W.C.T.U. committee of the War Memorial Library had sent out 894 books, 147S magazines and 70 children's tooke. A donation was passed by thj union to help this work. Donations were also passed for the Christmas tea for women prisoners, sweets for Costley Home and Loyal Temperance Legion work. The present officers were reelected: President, Mrs. J. Cook; recording secretary, Mrs. J. W. Taylor; corresponding, Miss JT. Dawav; treasurer, Mrs. Swan; vice-presidents, Mcsdames Ready Heard, Ross, Misses Paul and Mears. The following laiics weie appointed superintendents of departments: Evangelistic, Mrs. Stinipson; Bible in schools, Mrs. Heard; cradle roll, Meedariies McCombs and Holmes; backblocks, Mrs. Hall; notable days. Miss Dewar; W.R. agents, Miss Hill and Mrs. Walker.
