CAR LEAVES ROAD.
SPECTATORS' LUCKY ESCAPE. Three people were lucky to _ escape injury when a two-seater car which was competing in a hill-climbing contest at Mount Roskill on Saturday afternoon ■ skidded off the road and then ran back- ' wards down a slope. The racing driver, C. Edwards, was giving D. McL. Wallace's car a second run, and the car skidded while accelerating. A man and woman among the spectators just managed to dodge the car as it. swerved. Then it ran back- j wards down a slope and stopped against ] a tree and a fence about 20ft below the ' road, without any apparent damage tliaii. a dented mudguard. The driver waa unscathed. '
