NEW GOVERNOR.
ADMIRAL FOR N.S.W. (Received 12.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, this day. Admiral Sir David Murray Anderson, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Newfoundland, is to be the new Governor of New South Wales in succession to Sir Alexander Hore-Rutliven. The official announcement will be made in the course of the next few days.
Sir David Murray Anderson was appointed Governor of Newfoundland in 1933. He is 61 years of age, and embarked on a naval career in 1889. He served in various campaigns before the Great War, when he took part in the operations resulting in the destruction of the Konigsberg, East Africa. He also served in the Grand Fleet. After the war he held commands in the Far East, Africa and South Africa, and was posted to the retired list in 1932 after acting as Admiralty representative on the League of Nations Permanent Advisory Commission. He was raised to the rank of Admiral in 1931.
