WOMEN'S DIVISION.

WAITEMATA QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the Waitemata provincial executive of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held at the Farmers' Trading Company boardroom last Friday, 24 branches of the executive being represented by an attendance of 51 delegates, Mrs. M. G. Orr, vicepresident, presided. Information regarding financial assistance available to sons of returned soldiers desirous of entering Flock House was given by Mrs. R. S. Judson, who also mentioned that cost of outfit would amount to approximately £20. Particulars of assistance along these lines, which had recently been given by her branch to a boy sent to Flock House from Kaukapakapa, were given by Mrs. R. Osbaldiston. It was decided (a) that branches of the executive should be asked to contribute towards cost of outfit and incidental expenses of the boy, whose case has been under consideration; and (b) that this boy's name should be sent to headquarters as the executive's nominee for the North Island. A remit from Onewhero asking that in the selection of boys for Flock House- preference should be given to those who have lost their fathers was passed for submission to the next Dominion executive meeting. Mrs. D. M. Bryan, housekeeping secretary, reported that 22 applications had been filled during the quarter. 11 housekeepers having filled engagements covering a total period of 85 weeks. Statements showing a satisfactory position of the housekeeping and general accounts were presented by Mesdames E. Dyer and R. C. Clark, special mention being made of a donation of £10 10/ to the housekeeping fuud sent from England by Mrs. N. P. Adams. On the proposal of Mrs. Shaw, Taupaki, it was decided that an appeal be made to branches to inaugurate a hospital comforts fund to be administered by the Auckland branch. Keen appreciation was expressed of the work of tho Auckland branch in visiting country members who were from time to time patients in the Auckland Hospital, and country branches welcomed an opportunity to help in this way. Mrs. R. Osbaldiston, hon. organiser, gave an account of a meeting at Warkworth of the Kaipara sub-provincial executive of the Farmers' Union, which she had been invited to attend as women's division representative. As an outcome of her visit, Mrs. Osbaldiston said that she had every hope of forming a keen branch of the division at Warkworth. In response to an invitation from the Farmers' Union, it was decided to appoint Mesdames M. G. Orr and R. C. Clark as delegates to attend meetings of tho Franklin sub-provincial executive of the Farmers' Union. A letter from Mrs. Rcvell, hon. secretary of the Auckland Federation of Women's Institutes, giving further information relative to the needj. for a home for backward children, was read. It was mentioned that this matter already has the hearty support of the women's division. On the motion of Mrs. Clark, it was decided that the executive should joiil the British Drama League, under the special plan by which branches affiliated to the executive may join for the use of the library. A short talk on the urgent need for restriction in the sale of contraceptives to young people was given by Mrs. Cory-Wright. A pleasant interlude in the day's business programme was provided when Mrs. M. G. Orr, who has been actingpresident of the executive during the absence abroad of Mrs. Noel P. Adams, entertained all delegates to afternoon tea. In thanking Mrs. Orr for her hospitality, appreciative reference was made to her services to the executive, the function concluding with the usual musical honours.
