SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
FOURTH ANNUAL SOCIAL. Decorated with golden and yellow Iceland poppies, McKenzie's Tearooms presented an attractive sight on Saturday night when the Auckland School Committees' Association held its fourth annual social. Community singing, led by Mr. A. T. Dow, secretary and treasurer of the association, opened the proceedings. The president, Mr. W. H. Fortune, extended a hearty welcome to the gathering, and short addresses were given by Mr. A.*C. Rowe, president of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute, Mr. E. F. Snell, president of the Headmasters' Association, and Mr. T. U. Wells, chairman of the Auckland Education Board.
The programme was most enjoyable. It included songs and humour, those contributing being Mrs. A. Rattray, Mrs. Harold T. King, Mrs. E. J. Hipwell, Miss Patterson, Mr. Frank Sutherland and Mr. W. Gemmell, who sang; Mrs. R. Reed, who played pianoforte solos; and Mr. Alan McElwain, who provided humour. Duets were sung by Mr. Frank Sutherland and Mr. W. Gemmell, and an exhibition of magic was given by Mr. H. Withers. The accompanist was Mrs. R. Reed. The presentation of an enlarged photograph of the executive and a kitbag was made during the evening to Mr. Walter Dixon, former secretary and treasurer of the association, by Mr. W. W. Murray, immediate past-president. The ladies' committee comprised Mrs. R. M. Mountjoy and Mrs. F. Mcßride. Present at the gathering were: Mr. R. Rew and Mr. C. F.
