QUEEN STREET FIRE.
Shop Window Ablaze — Glass and Celluloid. The hot rays of the setting sun shining at an angle through some magnifying glasses in a shop window of Messrs. Barry and Bealc, Ltd., opticians, 322, Queen Street, was the cause of a fire at 0.10 this afternoon. The magnified rays .set fire to some celluloid goods in the window and pungent fume* poured out. Two call boxes nearby were broken and four engines from the central station and one from the Western District station answered the alarm. However the fire was confined to the shop window and only minor damage was done. "The fire illustrates the danger of having magnifying glasses exposed in shop windows," said Superintendent W. L. Wilson of the Fire Brigade. "It should be a warning to shopkeepers. They should exercise great care with goods of this nature. A fire last year caused through similar circumstances had most serious results."
