Two Centuries.

Big Opening Partnerships For Eden. With first strike on an easy wicket Eden opened against Parnell with Mills and Postles to the bowling of Vivian and Claphani. The Eden pair soon settled down to cany the score along slowly, with Postles hard on the defensive and Mills ever ready to cover-drive hard at an over-pitched ball. Parnell bowling changes were rung quickly, and McCoy and Goodsir were soon on in an endeavour to break the partnership, but with an hour's play the opening pair were still in possession and 50 was up. The Parnell ground fielding was good, and the batsmen were only getting an occasional shot, away. The Parnell bowlers were angling hard for Mills in the slips, but the left-hander was letting a lot fly by on the off. He opened verv confidently at Goodsir and McCoy,and 70 went up. Mills was now going along very confidently, with Postles in sound and solid possession at the other end. Vivian came back to the bowling crease and the 'scoring against slowed. The Parnell bowling, was steady, but the wicket was easy, and even the turning ball was coming off very slowly. Free driving by Mills and an occasional scoring shot by Postles brought the century up. At the tea adjournment Eden had 123 runs on without loss, Mills 00 and Postles 52.

Two overs produced a single run, when the play restarted, with McCoy and Goodsir as the bowlers. Up to this stage of the game neither of the batsmen had given a chance, and rarely a ball was lifted. Anthony came on, and to his slow bowling the batsmen opened out to send the score along faster, Postles showing more freedom than he did in the earlier stages of the play. Parnell bowline changes were now coining fast, and tne batsmen looked like settling down again. Postles sent 1">0 up in a straight lifting shot off Vivian, the batsmen at this stage each being 73. Mills sent 100 up by turning Vivian to the line at extra fine leg. The batsmen nppearcd to be in complete command of the situation, although Vivian was bowling well enough to keep them reasonably quiet. Postles with a boundary shot got bis century and brought 200 up. Mills soon followed with three figures. The batsmen then went boldly for runs. The partnership wa.s broken at 274, G. Siddk beating Postles with a ball that kept low. Scores :-r-EDE:;>-First Innings. Mills, not out ...'..\ 12u Postles. b G.
