BUYER WANTED.

CITY FIRE STATION. CRAMPED FOR QUARTERS. DRILLS IN PUBLIC STREET. Forced by lack of accommodation to conduct its drills in the public streets, without a recreation area for its men, such as other fire stations have, and with superintendent's quarters which, in the words of the chairman, Mr.. J. J.. Kingston, are "a blot on the board," the Auckland Metropolitan Fire Board would be glad to find a purchaser for its present buildings in Pitt Street and remove to a larger site. The secretary, Mr. P. Butler, told members at cheir meeting to-day that they were now paying £1248 per annum in rent which was equal to the interest at 3$ per cent on £33,500. "They're all getting married," said the chairman, referring to: the firemen. "We can only keep the matter in view." During the month the brigade t answered 51 calls, of which 21 were actual fires, 12 false alarms, 10 chimney fires,

7 grass or rubbish and 1 was outside the board's area.

The superintendent, Mr. W. L. Wilson, who submitted a report on fire losses for the past six months, said the increase was largely due to the fire at Dixieland.

Hie report showed the following totals, the figures for the corresponding period of last year being given in parentheses: Insurances on buildings, £330,459 (£271,992); on contents, £197,091 (£190,025); losses on insured buildinsß, £9734 (£6828); on insured contents, £7395 ( £6507); on uninsured buildings, £119 (£156); on uninsured contents, £510 ( £270); total losses, £17,760 (£13,828).

The majority of the fires occurred during the night.
