THEATRE MANAGER FINED.
CHARGE OP OVERCROWDING. A charge of theatre overcrowding was admitted in the Magistrate's Court, before Mr. W. R. MoKean, S.M., to-day by John Kingston, manager of the Adelplii Theatre, Grey Lynn. Inspector McDonald, who prosecuted for the Auckland City Council, said that a Fire Board inspector who visjted the theatre on Saturday, September 7, found 27 persons present in excess of seating accommodation. The exits and aisles were blocked because some patrons were sitting on loose chairs. "Such obstruction is very serious in case of an outbreak of fire," lie added. Defendant admitted that six extra chairs were used. He refunded the price of admission to 13 patrons. "You are liable to quite a substantial penalty on this charge," Mr. McKcan told the manager. "It is your duty to see that there is no danger, in the ] interests of public safety." A fine of £2 and costs was imposed.
