HOPE ABANDONED.
Regulations Will Make Record Impossible. "SMITHY" DISAPPOINTED. (Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, October 14. Sir Charles Kingsford Smith expects to leave on Wednesday or Thursday morning on his flight to Australia. He conferred with the Air Ministry to-day and agreed to remove or seal the extra petrol tanks to conform to requirements. This will reduce os petrol by about 100 gallons, limiting the range of his machine to 1500 miles.
"Smithy" is disappointed and has abandoned hope of the record.
