CROQUET OPENINGS.

ST. HELIER'S BAY. Tlie St. Heliers Bay Croquet Club opened their 193G-3G season on Saturday afternoon. The glorious day made the function a very pleasant one. Mr. I<\ Lowe, the president, welcomed tlie ■visitors and wished the club a happy and successful season. Among those present were: Mesdames Fawcett, Bain, McLaren, McMasters, Main, Horspool, Wright, St. Clair, Inglis, Foster Clarke, Mciklejohn, Biggs, Day, Laslett, sen., Goldsboro, Russell, Gisby, Roberts, Dunn, Laslett, jn 11., McGregor, Boyce, Bilks, Ilubber, Garrard, Lowe, Porter, Moodie and Aliss Appleyard. ROCKY NOOK. The official opening of the Rocky ,Nook Croquet Club took place 011 Saturday in brilliant sunshine. The president. Mrs. Kent ley, extended a hearty welcome to a large gathering of members and friends and called 011 Mrs. Hodgson to play tlie lirst ball. Among those present were Mrs. Hamilton, New Zealand Croquet Council. Mrs. Webber and Mrs, Finch, Auckland Croquet Association. Representatives from the following clubs were a'-.-o present: Carlton, Mount Kden, Mount Albert, Avondale, Henderson, Malvern, Hallyburton Johnstone, The afternoon tea tables were prettily decorated with Iceland poppies and sweet peas. Progressive croquet was played, the winners being: A, Airs. Sharp; runner-up, Mrs. Chambers; B, Airs. Dunn; runner-up, Mrs. Phillips. PONSONBY. The Ponsonby Croquet Club's lawns were officially opened on Saturday last when the president of the club, Airs. Aitchison, welcomed the visitors and wished the members a very happy season. She then naked Air. A. Rosser to declare the lawns open. Aliss Bastcn and Air. Patterson also spoke. The president was presented with a bouquet l>v the vice-president, Airs. Foster, and Mrs. AlcDill (president of the Auckland Croquet Association) was also presented with a bouquet by the president, Airs. Aitchison. The pavilion and tea tables were nicely decorated by the president and committee in the club's colours, golden Iceland poppies and pale mauve stocks. Among the guests were: Aiesdames, R. J. Hamilton, vice-president of the Dominion Croquet Council. Airs. Keesing, secretary of Auckland Croquet Association, and representatives from many other clubs. MONT LE GRANDE. The Alont Le Grande Croquet Club held its opening day on Saturday. The lawns were in good condition, and the games enjoyed by all. Air. IT. Clark, president, of the Balmoral Bowling Club, congratulated the club on its successes through the last season. Airs. W. J. Scott, president, extended a. hearty welcoino to members and friends. Airs. Alc(Jill, president of the Auckland Croquet Association, wished the club continued prosperity, and congratulated Airs. Thomson 011 being champion of Auckland for three successive years. Opportunity was taken to make a presentation to Mr. Layland, lion, auditor to the club, for his services. The president then played the lirst ball across the lawn and declared the lawns open '"for the season 1935-30. Progressive croquet was played, the winners being A Airs. Thomas, B Airs. Foreman, consolation A Airs. Salmon, B Airs. Hutchinson.
