SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
Tlie Playhouse Players jnet for their weekly play reading circle last night, when Alfred Lutros' light comedy, "Far Above Rubies," was read, the following were included in the cast: Misses Betty Birch, Joyce Smith, Xancy Pricliard, Dorothy Joynt, Roma Warbrick, and Messrs. M. McXair, Neville Ward. Dick Frith, Senton, Mick Orr, and J. W. Bailey. • • • • An enjoyable evening was spent at Violet Robinson's studio on Saturday night, when "Mr. and Mrs. J. Ross, of Whangarei, entertained some eighty guests at a. twenty-first birthday party for their son, Ronald George. During the evening exhibition dances were given by Mr. Lloyd Ingram and Miss Casey Gribble, and George Cox; songs by Mr. Lai Porter and Mr. Parry; and elocutionary items by Miss Holdsworth were also enjoyed. During supper toasts were proposed by Mrs. A. D. Jack and Mr. Noel Crump.
