Great Run at Finish to Beat Outsider. The day's sport opened with the Normanby Handicap and when the final figures were adjusted most support was accorded Mazir ( £534) and Bantry £405), while the second horse, Light Comedy, carried only £84. Light Comedy, Bantry, Teddy Boy, Nun Nicer and Killadar were the smartest to begin and along tho back Light Comedy had opened up a break of three lengths to Bantry, Teddy Boy, Nun Nicer, Killadar, Jewelled Girdle, Miss Lu, Valrent, Glenhaupo, Mazir and Express. Tidalia then moved up smartly and across the top was in second place behind Light Comedy; then followed Bantry, Teddy Boy, Jewelled Girdle, Valrent, Mazir, Express and Killadar. Light Comedy was first into the straight from Tidalia, Bantry, Jewelled Girdle and Teddy Boy. The leaders were all lighting it out at the distance when Mazir came with a great run and was going away at the finish to beat Light Comedy by a length with Bantry a neck away third. Teddy was fourth, then came Jewelled Girdle, Nun Niccr, King Tut, Killadar, I/ikutaia, Tidalia, Express and Miss Lu. An Easy Win. All started in the Manukau Hurdles, for which the best backed proved to be Red Sun'( £430) and Erination (£392). Dclrain who finished second carried £134. Kuling King, Dark Marble and Erination were prominent early, but Erination soon took up the running and led past the stands from Carlaris, Ruling King, Prince Val, Lord Val, Dark Marble, Dclrain, Cargen, Red Sun and Wee Pat. Along the back Erination was out three lengths clear of Prince Val, Dark Marble, Dclrain, Carlaris, Lord Val and Red Sun. Lord Val lost his rider at the seven-furlong post. Across the top Erination was six lengths in front of Prince Val, Dark Marble, Dclrain, Red Sun, Carlaris and Ruling King. Prince Val and Dark Marble came at the hurdle by the three-furlong post and Erination turned for home well clear of Delrain and Red Sun. Nothing had a chance with Erination and he went on to beat Dclrain by six lengths, with three lengths to Red Sun. Carlaris, Ruling King and Wee Pat were next. When Prince Val fell he broke his back and had to be destroyed. The Open Sprint. Mother Superior and Princess Star were withdrawn from the Epsom Handicap and most money came for Galilee (£G2O), Jonathan (£589), Star Artist (£274) and Astarth (£240). British Columbia caused a lot of trouble at tho start and when the barrier rose was not in line. Galilee was first out from Puss Moth, Adalcnc and Star Artist, and tho order across the -top was Galilee, Puss Moth, Boughal, Adalenc, Star Artist, Astarth, Pasha, Jonathan and British Columbia. Boughal moved up fast at this stage and led into the straight with Galilee, Puss Moth, Star Artist, Adalene, Jonathan and Astarth following, and in a great finish Astarth camo from the back to beat Star Artist by a head, with Jonathan only a neck away third. Boughal and British Columbia were practically in line next, and then came Adalene, Galilee, Puss Moth and Pasha. A Big Surprise. A large field faced the starter for the King .Edward Memorial Handicap, and the best backed were King Rey (£450) and Spiral (£393), but a surprise was in store, the nineteenth favourite Mungatoon, carrying only £43, winning and paying over two scorc. Kiltowyn, who finished second, had £90 invested upon his chances. The field were bunched as they raced past the stands with King Rey, On Parade, Imamint, Kiigi, Spiral, Kiltowyn, Tybalt and Suiice racing in a prominent position, but Engi then ran through to the front and led along the back attended by Scotland, Kiltowyn, Mungatoon, Tybalt, On Parade, Spiral, King Rey, Baroscope and Imamint. Mungatoon then moved up on terms with Engi, and this pair led across the top from Baroscope, Tybalt, Kiltowyn, Gay Broney, Kelly, Spiral, Imamint and Gay Rose. Engi and Mungatoon showed the way into the straight, with Kiltowyn, Tybalt, Baroscope, Gay Broney, Spiral and Scotland following in that order. Once straightened up Mungatoon drew out to win by a length and a half from Kiltowyn, with King Rey finishing on a head away third. Spiral was fourth, then came Scotland, Silver Brier, Baroscope, Monanui, Sunee and Imamint.
