YOUNG IMPOSTOR.
ISSUED CHEQUES. THREE MONTHS' MORE GAOL "DON'T WANT YOU HERE." "This man is an out-and-out impostor, who has been going under the name of "Dr. Leslie," and has described himself as an actuary and other things, and he is at present serving one month's imprisonment for issuing a valueless cheque/" Given this character by Senior Detective Hall, Ivanhoc Huia Leslie-Bicknell, salesman, aged 24, pleaded guilty in the Police Court to-day to three charges of obtaining goods valued at 2/1 and £3 10/ in cash by means of valueless cheques. Mr. S. deal appeared for the prisoner. Mi-. Hall added that when interviewed by Detective Brady accused admitted that he knew he never had sufficient money in the bank when he issued the cheque, but said he expected to receive sufficient funds. Accused was a married man with a wife and child. "Here is a report we have received about him from the Sydney policc," said Mr. Hall, handing a document to the magistrate. "It may be of some interest." Mr. Cleal said accused first commenced his career as a medical student, but lack of finance forced him to throw up his studies. "He is now realising that these matters were more than civil debts, and I trust that your Worship will not add to the sentence which he is at present serving," said counsel. "According to the Sydney police report he has been scheming and robbing," said Mr. Hunt in sentencing accused to three months' imprisonment on one of the charges, the sentence to commence at the expiry of his present term. "The sooner you leave New Zealand the better, for we don't want you here," the magistrate told the prisoner.
