LESS JAPANESE TRADE.

AMERICA AND PHILIPPINES. WASHINGTON, October 13. The State Department announces that a two-year agreement lias been reached with Japan to limit the annual imports of _ Japanese cotton textiles into the Philippine Islands to 40,000,000 square metres. As the annual imports are approximately 06,000,000 square metres; the i? . Statcs and Japan will practically divide the market, other sources of supply being only about 5 per cent. The monetary realisation of American exports, however, will probably be much the larger, because of higher-priced goods. Last year Japan exported about 50,000,000 square metres. The Japanese agreement presumably followed a threat to increase the tariff.
