Sir Herbert Matthews, of London, is at the Grand Hotel. Mr. A. H. Johnstone, K.C., has returned from Wellington. Sir. J. S. Barton arrived in Auckland by the Limited this morning. Mr. E. T. Moller has been re-elected president of the Otago Yacht and Motor Boat Association. Mr. E. A. Perkins, of Auckland, left for Christehurch last night to attend a potato conference. Mr. L. E. Straclian has been appointed of the Wellington Symphony Orchestra. Sir. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, returned to Auckland from the South by train yesterday. The Hon. T. Bloodworth and the Hon. A. Burns, M.L.C.'s, are leaving for the South by the Limited to-night. Mr. A. B. Bremner, assistant engineer, Public Works Department, Opotiki, has been transferred to Greymouth. Commander B. C. B. Brooke, officer in charge of the Dcvonport Naval Base, returned from Wellington by train yesterday. Mr. G. M. Spence, of Wellington, president of the New Zealand Aero Club, paid a brief visit to Auckland yesterday. Sir James Grose, general manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, arrived in Auckland by train yesterday and is at the Northern Club. Mr. J. H. Lindon, general manager of the Vacuum Oil Company, Limited, arrived in Auckland by the Limited this morning and is at the Grand Hotel. Mr. Stanley S. Scott, managing director of Berlei (New Zealand), Limited, returned this morning from a business tour of the North and South Islands. Mr. W. J. Tegg, Auckland provincial member of the New Zealand Council of the Railway Tradesmen's Association, leaves for Wellington to-night to attend a conference of the Dominion governing body. Detective J. McLeod, of Gisborrie, has been transferred to Nelson after 22 years in the Poverty Bay district. Detective F. Sinclair, stationed in Nelson for the past (U years, lias been transferred to Christchurch. Mr. W. J. Wagstaff, inspector of stock at the Department of Agriculture,' Oamaru, has been appointed farm inspector with the Public Trust Department, with headquarters in Wellington. He has had more than 20 years' service in the Department of Agriculture.
