FINAL DAY. SELECTOR'S CUP MATCH. KENT CUP TO ST. LUKE'S. Tho curtain fell on the hockey season when at Remuera oil Saturday two bright and interesting games were played. Tho first was for the Kent Cup, the champion of champions trophy, and tho contestants were St. Luke's, winners of tho Devonport Shield, and Grammar Old Boys, who with St. Luke's were bracketed champions for the Davis Cup. Tho game was fast and exciting, and resulted in a win for St. Luke's by four goals to three. The Selectors' Cup, between the Auckland representatives and The Rest, produced one of the finest games yet witnessed for this trophy. The Rest cracked the pace 011 from the start and quickly took tho lead. The contest was brimful of interesting, exciting play and contained incidents of skilful stickwork and movements not witnessed in any of the Shield matches. Tho Rest's showing plainly indicated that there is plenty of talent to case tho selector's task. Auckland won by five goals to three. At the conclusion of the game Auckland's crack centrc forward, 15. Watte, who has announced his retirement from tho game, was carried shoulder high off the ground, everybody singing "For He's a Jolly Ciood Fellow." SELECTOR'S CUP. AUCKLAND V. THE REST. The teams were Auckland: M. Wattam. C. Smith. F. Clark, N. Brown, S. Robertson, T. Clark, P. Chapman, R. Roughton, E. Watts, I. Ross, I<\ Wellborne. The Rest: A. Delahunty, R. Bowden, C. Stewart. B. Hcrriott, S. Long, K. Lawry, It. Fen ton, 11. Cooper, G. Twigden, L. Monteith, N. Corin. Auckland quickly forced play to the Rest's circle, when E. Watts finished the movement by just missing the net. Lawry then cleared to Corin, who cross hit, and from die resultant play down the right Wattam came out to make a timely save. Back came Fenton, who centred, and Twigden shot, but Wattam stopped. However, Twigden got the rebound and netted. Spurred by their success, the Rest were soon back, and solid defending by F. Clark cleared the danger. Roughton secured and broke through, but Lawry cleared. Auckland, however, perished in the attack, and this time E. Watts finished a fine lorward movement. Play still remained in the Rest's quarter until Bowden cleared to half-way. The pace was now ou and ends changed rapidly until the Auckland forwards attacked strongly and Delahunty kicked clear. Away swept the Rest to their opponents' circle, where a pretty bout of passing was witnessed, but hard hitting sent the ball over the line. Thrusts by Watts and Roughton went close to scoring until Auckland gained a penalty corner and from a melee in the goal mouth Auckland scored.

A fine rally by The Rest ended ill Fenton hitting tne side of the net. Up the left swept Auckland, for Wellbourne to find the net. Auckland 3. The Best 1. A raid headed by Fenton looked dangerous, but Monteith missed (he centre and Smith cleared. Watts then broke through, but Oelalmnty came out and kicked clear. A Smart work by Twlgden, Cooper and FeWton had Auckland in difficulties until Smith came back and cleared to the; quarter line. Half-time was shortly called. Auckland 3 The Rest 1 With ends changed play hung in midfield until Twigdeu hit to Fen top and Auckland conceded a penalty corner. The shot was intercepted and Auckland, in a neat passing run, reached the circle, only to miss the centre and a great chance to score. The Rest replied with a counter-attack that ended in Twlgden's shot go'ng wide. It was anybody's game at this stage, the forwards of each side being stopped when matters looked dangerous. At last Monteith secured and eluded the defence to net. Auckland 3, The Rest 2. From the bully Auckland, led by Watts, broke through, and passed to Roughtou, who scored. Auckland 4, The Best 2. Forward rushes by Auckland continued until Stewart relieved with a big hit. The Itest forwards gained the circle, and Wattnln just stopped Montelth's shot. Auckland quickly returned to the attack, gaining a penalty corner. Chapman got the rebound, and netted, but the shot was disallowed through sticks. A few moments after Watts broke through, passed to Chapman, who netted. Auckland 5, The Rest 2. The Rest broke through from the bully, and Fenton centring. Twigdeu scored. KENT CUP FINAL. The teams were :— Grammar: Anderson, Twlgden, Hay, Herriott. W. Ross, I.awry, Armstrong, Torbett, Houghton, I. Itoss, .Terrain. St. Luke's: M. Wattam, King, F. Clark, Brodie, Itohertson, T. Clark, Fcnton, Alexander, Vipond, Corin, Grace. St. Luke's advanced from the bully through the agency of Fcnton, but hitting too hard a twenty-live bully resulted. Grammar quickly worked their way to the other end, Houghton having a shot which went wide. Grace was then seen in a nice run down the left flank, but Twlgden stopped well, sending .Terratn racing for the circle. St. Luke's repulsed the attack and play gravitated to Grammar's quarter, where an unsuccessful corner resulted. Houghton cleared, but Grace returned the attack down the left Han it, Twlgden proving the stumbling block. Ilonghton raced away on his own, beating three opponents, but Wattam came out to the circle edge and cleared. Torbett and Armstrong were next prominent in a nice concerted movement, but F. Clark proved safe. Grammar continued to press and Houghton, accepting a nice pass in the circle, found the net with a hard shot. Grammar 1, St. Luke's 0. St. Luke's, roused by this reverse, quickly advanced to Grammar's quarter, but the invasion proved temporary. They returned to the attack and from a corner Robertson scored for St. Luke's. Grammar 1 ( St. Luke's 1. From the bully Grammar quickly advanced and Jerram, gaining possession in the circle, connected and scored again for the whites. Grammar 2, St. Luke's 1. Robertson got away on his own and passed to Alexander, whose shot went outside the posts. St. Luke's continued to press, but could only force a couple ot unsuccessful corners. Grammar raised the siege and Armstrong gained ground, only to find his centre go right across the field unaccepted. A minute later Armstrong again invaded the reds' circle, but his shot lacked direction. Alexander sent across a nice pass to Grace, who drew the goalie and scored despite a determined elTort to cover by Twlgden. Grammar 2, St. Luke's 2. A moment later Roughton accepted a nice centre from Armstrong, but although he; had plenty of time he missed a sitter. Play, was moving rapidly from end From a free hit in midfield Roughton beat King j to the ball, gained control just as Wattam j came out to meet him and flicked past him , to find the net. Grammar 3, St. Luke's 2. St. Luke's cracked on the pace and set I up a determined attack. From a centre by Grace, Vipond had a shot which Anderson took on his pads, but Alexander collected on the rebound and shot into an open corner of the net. Grammar 3, St. Luke's 3. St. Luke's now had Grammar defending stubbornly and from a melee just outside the circle Vipond took the ball into the circle and beat the goalie with a clinking shot. St. Luke's 4 Grammar 3 Messrs. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. At tlie conclusion of the ladies' matches at Remuera 011 Saturday a pleasant ceremony took place ■when Mr. L. C. Kent, president of the Auckland Ladies' Hockey Association, presented the. trophies won in the various competitions. In the course of his specch Mr. Kent referred to the progress of the game, and the good showing the Auckland provincial team made at the New Zealand tournament. Special reference was made to the splendid services rendered by Miss A. Twiname, secretary of the association, also to the presentation of tlie New Zealand life member's badge to Miss P. H. Dawson, and the Auckland Association life members' badge to Miss K. Burton during the season. For raising funds Miss'lna Douglas (St. David's) was voted the most popular player, with Miss Heather Trice (Mount Eden) next. Cheers for Mr. Kent and the officials of the association concluded a pleasant function. Paton, a young Invercargill cyclist, won the 140mile tour do Southland amateur road cycle race on Saturday. I. Taylor (Christchureli) came second from scratch and secured fastest time, covering the course in seven hours. F. J. Grose (Christchureli) was third. It was probably the longest and hardest amateur road race in the Dominion. The course lay through NVinton, 1/11 mSlipn, Balfour, Riversdalc. and Gore, then back along the main road to Invercargill. The circuit, of 3ii miles is probably the fastest used by any of tlie local clubs, as it is almost level and two-thirds of the route is paved in concrete and asphalt.
