DEFENCE PROBLEM.
I 1 RANGE OF LATEST 'PLANES. DESTROYED OUR ISOLATION. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) 'HAMILTON, Saturday. Speaking at the opening of the Waikato airport this afternoon, the Minister of Internal Affairs (Sir Alexander Young) referred to a new problem in the Dominion's defences. The modern flying machine, he said, could to-day leave Australia, or certain foreign-owned islands in the Pacific, visit New Zealand, drop bombs, and return to its base within the hours of daylight. These developments had brought us in time so close to other nations that the natural defence provided by our isolation I had disappeared. I
