ACCOUNTANCY EXAMS. SCHOOL CERTIFICATE PLAN. SOCIETY COUNCIL'S VIEWS. (By Telegraph.—rrofis Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Council of the New Zealand Society of Accountants lias adopted the report of the sub-committee which considered the request of representatives of secondary schools that a school certificate should be recognised as an examination pass for the Society's preliminary examination. The report states that the sub-com-inittee is of the opinion that the standard for the school certificate is at least equal to that of matriculation, but cannot recommend the adoption of the certificate as entitling the candidate to a pass in the society's preliminary examination because of the following reasons: (a) A school certificate is not accepted by the university in lieu of matriculation and is therefore of 110 value to a candidate who wishes to proceed to the Bachelor of Commerce degree; (b) A school certificate is not. recognised by other professions, such as medicine, law or dentistry; (c) To accept a certificate when it has 110 outside recognition would tend to lower, in the estimation of outside persons, the value of the society's examination. The sub-committee recommends that representations should be made to the university to acccpt again partial passes in the matriculation examination.
