SECOND RACE DAY.

ON THE ELLERSLIE LAWNS. SMART SUITINGS POPULAR. Another enjoyable race day was spent at Ellerslie to-day, when the Auckland Racing Club held the second day of its spring meeting. The lawns were looking charming, llecent rains had made the grass bright and fresh, which was a happy setting for the brilliance of the flower beds, which were filled with spring blooms. Tailored suits were again the order of the day and navy was the most popular

of the colours. It looked essentially smart when relieved with white. Navy and white spots as accessories were exceedingly well patronised. They were to be seen in scarves, bags and hats. Grey was also popular, flannel and tweeds being used with navy or brown combinations. Many of the suits were plain, though son.e favoured the belted styles with wide rovers. Hats were, on the whole, plainly trimmed and were in felt, velvet and straw. They inclined to the small-brimmed style which gave the right finish to the tailored lines of the ensembles.
