BOY EMPLOYMENT.

LABOUR M.P.'S SPEECH. BLACK LIST ALLEGATION. RADIO FACTORY INSPECTION. An invitation by Mr. A. E. Marnier, secretary of the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation, to inspect the two largest radio manufacturing concerns in Wellington has been accepted by Mr. T. H. McCombs, Labour M.P. for Lyttelton, who stated in the House of Representatives on Thursday that one big radio manufacturing firm, among other kinds of industry, had been entered on a black list by boy employment committees because of conditions of boy labour in such industries. Mr. Mander (states the "Post") said that whatever cases Mr. McCombs had in mind of boys working long hours at poor rates of pay certainly could not apply to the three large factories engaged in the manufacture of New Zealand radio sets. Two of these firms were in Wellington and the other was in Auckland. Conditions and wages in these factories were really excellent. Mr. McCombs had accepted an invitation to inspect the two Wellington factories early next week and lie would lie shown their wages sheets. In addition to these factories, said Mr. Mander, there were a number of what were called "backyard workshops" for assembling sets made from imported radio parts." He had no personal knowledge of conditions in shops of this type.
