LOOKING FOR TRUTH.
THINGS OF THE SPIRIT. NOTED SALVATIONIST'S VIEWS. 'Tcoplc are coming back to spiritual things. They are waking up to the fact that there is 110 real substance in the materialism to which' everybody was drawn, in what 1 can only term tho years of inflation. The great number of new religious cults which are springing up indicates that people are looking for the truth, striving to find something that will meet their spiritual needs and satisfy their hearts." That opinion was expressed in Christchurch by Colonel George Davis, of the Salvation Army, who has fcacl unique opportunities of gathering evidence in recent years; for in his work as the Army's 'international "spiritual special," he has the world as his parish, and lias travelled many lands.
An American himself (says the "SturSun"), Colonel Davis said that the warmth and spirit of the people of New Zealand were equal to anything lie could expect in his home country. He liked the Dominion and the people ;n it. In the North Island his campaigns met with success, for 175 people made public piofession at his meetings, and there were many more who made their profession privately. In addition, lie established a prayer league with nearly a thousand members.
