THIRD ANNUAL BALL.

RUGBY LEAGUE ENTERTAINS.

The floor of the Peter Pan Cabarei was thronged with dancers last evening when the Auckland Rugby League held its third annual ball. Representatives from kindred clubs in Auckland were present and a special welcome was extended to members of the Australian team who are visiting Auckland and tc the New Zealand team. The combined colours of the clubs were used to deco rate the ballroom, banners in green and gold, black and blue and white being hung in the cubicles. The whole atmosphere was one of festivity, and contributing to the fun \\;ere novelties sucli as leis and hats in the club colours, These were made by Mr. H. Walmsley, an invalid returned soldier, and were presented to the captains and managers of the various teams. The supper room was also effectively decorated with brightly hued flowers. On arrival the guests were received by Mr. G. Grey Campbell, chairman of the Auckland Rugby League, and Mrs. Ivan Culpan, chairman of the ladies' committee. Mrs. Culpan wore a frock of black lace, trimmed with angelskin lace and a black panne velvet coatee. The energetic ladies' committee were fully represented and praise is due to them for the success of the function. Those present were: Mrs. F. Thompson (deputy-chair-man), who wore wine suede relieved with ecru trimming; Mrs. L. 0. Houghton (secretary), royal purple suede with silver lame trimming; Mrs. H. I. Stones (treasurer), black chiffon velvet; Mrs. A. Ferguson, black and silver Russian tunic; Mrs. R. Doble, black satin relieved with cream lace; Mrs. T. Chermside, cherry faille with coatec of black embossed velvet; Mrs. A. Scott, white organdie patterned with field flowers; Mrs. (J. H. Taylor, blue satin and lace; Mrs. J. W. Probert, coral crinkled crepe with silver lame coatee; and Mrs. L. R, G. Binns, black taffeta. Others present were: Mrs. IT.
