SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
The Community Club of the Ponp;akawa Valley tobacco settlement held a danco in the Pongakawa Ilall recently, \ylieil tho music was supplied by the Melody Roys, Miss Svkes and Mr. F.
Drabble playinir extras. A waltzinp competition was won by Mrs. Ingle and Mr. Patterson, while the jazz competition was won by Mrs. Hansen and Mr. WaterhoiißC. Miss Sykes and Mr. Jensen woro successful in winning the statue log cabin. Mr. Denton carried out the duties of master of ceremonies.
A delightful luncheon party was given in George Court and Sons, Ltd., tea rooms to welcome homo Nurse Thomas and Mr. Hicks from the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan and to farewell Mr. and Mrs. Keelty. About forty guests were present. Mr. S. Barry (chairman) spoke briefly on behalf of the council and friends of tho Sudan United Mission. Suitable replies were given by the guests of honour. Also present were Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Mills, who have been 22 years in the Sudan.
An enjoyable afternoon bridge party was given 111 George Court and Sons, Ltd., reception room by Mrs. Davey and Miss Keatley. The tea tables were artistically arranged with tall vases of Iceland poppies. Mrs. K. Davey received her guests wearing a Marina "blue suit and liat to match and Miss Keatley wore a floral marocain frock and black hat. The prizewinners were Mesdames D'Audney, Munro. Taylor and Laurie. Amongst the guests were also: Mesdames Torrance. Hilton, Baker. Hollav. Millar, Perry, Parker, Hill, Thomson. Broun, Taylor, -Matthews, Munro, Magill, Laurie, Tennant. A very pleasant afternoon party was given at Milne and C'hoyce's reception rooms yesterday afternoon by Mrs. B. Gouldstein and Mrs. A. Brown before their rcturirto Sydney by the Mariposa on Friday. Mrs. Brown received the guests wearing a grey tailored suit and furs. Mrs. Gouldstein wore a brown suit and silver furs. Amongst those present were:—Mesdames Marks. Katz, IF. A bridge and 500 evening was held in the Catholic Women's League rooms On Tuesday evening to raise funds for the boys' orphanage at Takapuna. The convener was Mrs. T. S. Hickey.
