ADVERSE BALANCE. IMPORTS EXCEED EXPORTS. FIGURES FOR AUGUST. Currency exports for August, 1935, were of lesser.value than for the same month last year, according to the overseas trade figures for last month. For the same month, too, there was a surplus of imports, as was also the case in August, 1934. Details are (excluding specie.): New Zealand currency exports, £2.876,000.; imports, .£3,002,000; excess of imports, £740,000. For August, 1934, they were £3,050.000, £3,219.000, and £139,000 respectively, and for August, 1933, £2,631,000, £2,139,000 and £492,000. Tho last group was in excess of exports. For the eight months ending August, 1935, exports wero .£3."!,203,000, imports £23,257,000, and £9,916,000 surplus of exports. For the corresponding period of 1934 tho totals were £37,430,000, £19,843,000, and £17.587,000 excess of exports, and for 1933, £29.370,000. £ 10,467,000, and £12,903 excess of exports. Tho valuo of specie excluded from the above figures, for August 1935, was as follows; Exports, £16,800; imports, £378,000; and for the eight months ended August, 1935, exports were £521,000, and imports £155,937.
