The expressed view of Mr. Harold Gutty, that air machines would have to land on Rangitoto Channel is wrong in my opinion. The water inside the harbour is nearly twice as deep as the Kangitoto Channel andj three times as sheltered. It has been pointed out the deep water in our harbour is an enormous asset and should never be encroached oil or obstructed by a bridge. Shoal Bay is a magnificent site for a seaplane base, and should be reclaimed for that purpose. The proposed tunnel scheme should undoubtedly be pushed by the North Shore, and the promoters of sucli a scheme would find the thinking people ot Auckland with them. R. STEWART
